Well, here we go.

If GDW tanks (in, say, three or so years), should we largely keep the New
Era setting, or simply revert back to pre-Rebellion Traveller with New Era
rules? Or try for something completely different? (ie. collapse without
Virus, Lucan winning the Civil War, etc.)

Even though I'm a Classic setting fan, the New Era does have it's
strengths (even the RC!), and it would be interesting to see "what's
going to happen next?"

In the end, it depends if we want a static setting (which can be deepened
greatly) ot a fluid setting (where the focus is on the extraordinary changes
going around you, rather than deepening and enriching the background and
the enormous canvass that Traveller presents).

Assuming anyone here can handle publishing it, either as a hobby
[remember those cheap little black books!] for fellow Traveller fans, or
as a going financial concern (doubtful).

Wow, a 2300AD thread. Will wonders never cease.

As for the accuracy of the starmap, it is a darn sight better then the
starmap provided w/ Traveller. Even if it does have a few inaccuracies
(sort of a GDW trademark after all) I prefer it to the map of the Solomani Rim.

I believe the qualification was that none of the other Aliens save the
Kafers has STAR travel. There were a couple of races with Space Travel,
although the Ebers did at one time have Stutterwarp (I believe their
homeworld was destroyed). In Traveller parlance, they would be minor races.
My favorite Aliens were the Pentapods which believed that anything tech
could do they could geneer better. How about those Bio-Samplers cute cuddly
and Ohh so useful, or the living Artificial Gill Something I would put on my
face (NOT).

After our nice discussion of the apparent anomaly of Andor
and Candory having both good starports and Red Zone
classifications, I found some gasoline to throw on the
fire:

"Several individual Tigresses [500 kton dreadnaughts] have
been deployed among the worlds of the Five Sisters
subsector to enforce the amber zone blockade of Candory and
Andor."

Supplement 9, Fighting Ships, at 38.

The reference to "amber zone" I assume to be a
proofreading error, but what about a blockade requiring
"several" of the "largest line-of-battle vessel[s]
currently in service with the Imperial Navy in the
Spinward Marches"?

Is the Imperium trying to keep something from getting out
of Andor and Candory, or trying to keep someone from
getting in? Or is it really just a cover or excuse for
building up Imperial forces on the opposite side of the
Sword Worlds?

Does anyone recall seeing anything else about a
heavily-enforced "blockade" of Andor and Candory in any
other materials? (I didn't see anything in the Droyne Alien
Supplement, nor in Alien Realms.)

And, of course, I solicit your thoughts on the Thyo Supud
in light of the foregoing.

I doubt it's going to take 3 years. I think the ship was taking on water when
Marc Miller left & is now going down.

I would prefer that we revert to, say, 1115 & assume that those worthless louts
at IRIS had done their jobs & the Rebellion had never happened. As a second choice
I would have the Rebellion happen but be crushed by Lucan's initial attack & then
have Lucan assasinated by a Dulinor die-hard mole & have Margaret assume the throne
to deal with the various border problems that would have cropped up by then.

I've written an adventure in an RC setting set on the world of Nova Rhyll
in Thoezennt subsector. It's based upon one of the ideas outlined in
Path of Tears. If anyone wants a copy for whatever reason, please mail me
and i'll send it you.

The Tacitus is an Imperial design widely produced during the 5th
Frontier War. It was designed primarily as an export comodity to allow
lower tech level worlds to supplement their Shukugan (Dragon) Squadrons.
As the Tacitus is designed at TL-14, extensive training and support programs
were offered as part of the Tacitus sales package.

Message-ID: <95Nov16.092205est.20481@gateway.intersys.com>

I would like to congratulate Alvin Plummer for a job well-done. This is
quite rare, as I do not agree with most of his views on Traveller and
Traveller:TNE. However, his comparison of his light cruiser design
with the RC modular vessel was particularly well written, and made far
more interesting reading than just another vessel description. I do
not spend much time designing ships and have not played either BL
or BR, so I generally have little interest in the ship descriptions.

But I know enough about the weaponry, numbers, and design
issues to follow the discussion, and the comparisons were
well-wrought (even if I did not agree completely with all points
made). Anyone with any interest in ships (not as units in a
board game, but as ships) could understand and enjoy the
article. Thank you, Alvin, for providing interesting reading.

Phew! Things arn't looking great for GDW at the minute.
Dave leaving will rob them of a major TNE writer, and a good one at
that. H+I had its problems, but Survival Margin and RSB are great.
I wonder how this will effect the release schedule?

"The Guilded Lily - coming December 2001"?

Talking of Releases, I was on the line to GDW a week or so ago. The
release schedule was:

Guilded lily - Nov 95.

Regency Vehicle Guide - Dec 95.

Reformation Coalition Player's Handbook - Dec 95.

Regency Starship Guide - Jan 96.

All these are 48 pages, and 12 dollars each.

As for Challenge stopping at 79, why? Any copies that reach our local quickly
evaporate, unlike Inphobia (R.I.H.), Dragon, White Dwarf, and others. The
Market will be left with no Science Fiction RPG magazine at all. Perhaps
GDW could just officially go bi-yearly?

Another thing, in the not too distant past, GDW mailed the list occasionally
to let us know of developments in TNE and the company in general. Of late
though they seem to be ignoring the list, and they've never answered any
e-mails I've sent them. Don't they care about their fans, the people who
buy their products? Maybe TML'er should e-mail GDW en-masse and fill the
subject line with : 'Whats up?'

Getting kind of exasperated at GDW,

Eamon Watters.

Responding to Bri:

>>Since the ships movement would come after the wave passed, and the wave
is lightspeed, how can they see the effects before the wave hits 'em?
Just a little curious here......<<

Easy. Using jump drive, they move ahead of the wave. After witnessing the
effects of the wave, jump-drive equipped craft jump to systems that have not yet
been reached and tell others what's coming.

You'd think anyone with psionics, like for instance the entire Zho nobility,
would get the heck out of there before the Wave comes and fries their brain.

It can be done, relatively easily. No, it's not really worth the work. If
you have World Tamer's handbook, then you could use the rules for
industrial production to make a yard facility. I used a volume of 14 kl per
ton of installations (none is given in WTH).
